2019-20 Madrid/Malaga, Genealogies of Art, or the History of Art as Visual Art
11 October 2019 - 31 May 2020
Jointly organised by the Fundación Juan March, Madrid, and the Museo Picasso Málaga, this exhibition aims to present a panorama of visual representations of the history of art. At the exhibition's centre, Alfred H.Barr's diagram for the Cubism and Abstract Art catalogue (MoMA,1936) will be unfolded into three dimensional space, with works placed according to his design, to revaluate the credibility of his genealogy of abstract art by considering its visual plausibliity. Representations of the history of art by artists, essayists, poets and historians will also be considered.
24 September 2019 - 24 January 2020
11 June 2022 - 25 September 2022
Exhibition Info: Lucy Carrington Wertheim (1883-1971) supported many public galleries and young artists, and bequeathed over 50 works to Towner Art Gallery. This exhibition will bring together paintings, drawings and sculptures from her disbanded collection for the first time in 50 years alongside works exhibited in the Wertheim Gallery, which she established in 1930. The exhibition includes Moore’s Head of a Girl which was shown at the Wertheim Gallery’s opening exhibition.
