The verso bears what appears to be the first sketch of one of Moore’s most important sculptures, Reclining Figure (LH 263) carved in elmwood over the years1945-46. A small terracotta model for the sculpture (LH 247) is catalogued 1945 but may have been begun earlier (see also comment on HMF 2028).
