Six abstract forms, all lit from a hidden source on the left, stand against a high, almost featureless wall. There appears to be a shadow, cast by the left 'leg' of the figure on the extreme left. If this is the correct interpretation, the shadow is something of a phenomenon in Moore's oeuvre. Rather, his prime concern was to express the three-dimensionality of the objects via the fall of light and shadow upon them. These six forms are variations of ideas rapidly recorded in sketches done earlier in the year - see HMF 1244 and 1249 in particular.
