Three Standing Figures
Three Standing Figures
(added later) pencil l.r. Moore/48 (date added after signature)
Fragment page from Rocking Chair Notebook 1947-48. This drawing is the top half of the page; its lower half is HMF 2391a, dated 1942, unrecorded until 1997. Some time after the page was divided Moore added a signature to the top half, dating it 48. Its verso is inscribed in blue ballpoint pen (. . .) on white crayon; the verso of HMF 2391a has not been seen for the remainder of the inscription, but blue ballpoint pen over white wax crayon has been used on other pages from the notebook, for example HMF 2513 and 2514. The blue ballpoint pen is distinctive and possibly indicates a very early use of the medium, although it could have been added later.
