Many of the following eighty-six drawings, all on off-white medium-weight wove paper 292 x 242 mm, have previously been ascribed to sketchbooks of 1947, 1948, 1949 or some combination of these dates. Some pages are numbered upper left in pencil on the verso while many others are unnumbered. Further drawings are mounted or stuck to a backing board, making their versos inaccessible. As the known numbers finish at 106, at least one sketchbook of more than this extent must have existed, but the large number of unnumbered pages indicates that not all the drawings originate from this source. In order to avoid further confusion they have been kept together under this generic heading, with page numbers given where deduced from the versos, but no attempt has been made to put them in numerical order.
