Published as a book in deluxe and standard Italian editions in 1971, it was subsequently reprinted in standard editions in 1974 and 1987. There was also a standard edition in French published by Hachette Fabbri, Paris 1972, and two German editions, the first published by Edition Praeger, Munich 1974, the second by Klett-Cotta, Stuttgart 1989. All editions contain a text by Giulio Carlo Argan, either in Italian or in translation, 222 illustrations (with modifications in later editions), a chronology, bibliography and list of exhibitions. The deluxe Italian edition contains the lithograph CGM 181.
306 x 260: 232 partly numbered pages in twenty-eight signatures of 8 and two of 4 bound in terracotta linen-covered boards, with a paper dust jacket with the title, publisher's imprint and a reproduction in colour of a detail of Two Piece Sculpture: Interlocking (LH 581) on the front, contained in an olive green linen-covered slipcase.
