Bernard Meadows in conversation with Julie Summers, 12th May 1994: "Unfortunately [Moore] had decided to melt down one of the lead [sculptures] in the late 1930s, when we were wanting lead to cast other things with. Fortunately I asked him if I could keep the head of Seated Figure (LH 81), which I've still got. I tried to dissuade him from melting the figure down but he wasn't interested. He was very hard up and we were wanting quite a lot of lead to cast things..."
