Colin Anderson, who became chairman of the Trustees of the Tate Gallery in the early 1950s when Moore was on the board, was among the group of British collectors who first began to buy Moore's work in the 1920s and 1930s. He was the first owner of this drawing, acquiring it from Moore's exhibition at the Leicester Galleries, London, in 1943.
