More InformationThe two sketches in pencil on the recto are certainly dateable to 1935. The trial patches of pastel are, of course, impossible to allot to any secure date. HMF 1211 bears the offset imprint of the reclining figure on the verso of HMF 1210. The larger scale and far greater freedom in drawing on the verso, together with the movement away from the abstract, quasi-geometrical sketches on the recto, points to Moore having drawn the verso sketches c.1948/50. As with HMF 1210v, Moore used the sketchbook upside down when the drawings are compared with the recto drawings.
