More Information

The title of this drawing refers to an appeal to raise money for Spanish Republican soldiers who had fled to France and been interned there. Moore, who in 1936 had signed the Surrealist manifesto which urged the end of a policy of non-intervention in Spain, made several drawings for this cause (and considered others, see HMF 1428, 1430) before the definitive HMF 1464 on which he based his first lithograph.
