More Information

The shadows cast by the figures in the foreground are an unusual element in Moore's drawings. The central elliptical form was developed in 1938 into a bronze and string sculpture Stringed Object (LH 187). Variations on the pair of objects confronting each other in the left foreground appear in other drawings (HMF 1317 for example), and the figure behind and to the right of the stringed object is very close to Stringed Figure 1938 (LH 190).
