More InformationThe drawings on the verso, particularly the two at the top, presage Moore's return to more naturalistic forms; only the small rapid sketches at the bottom are in any way abstract. In the inscription, the page reference is to Kulturgeschichte Afrikas by Leo Frobenius (1933) which contained photographs of ritual stones set in a Landscape. Five such stones are drawn at the centre of this page, and they reappear in other drawings of 1938 and 1939 such as HMF 1415 and 1456. See also comment on HMF 1388.
