Moore's pencilled inscriptions look ahead to Reclining Figure 1951 (LH 293) with its surface decoration of plater-coated string, and to Bird Basket 1939 (LH 205) with strings linking different points of the carving. The words 'one form inside another' lead to Helmet 1939-40 (LH 212).
