More InformationJohn Desmond (Sage) Bernal referred to in the recto inscription was a scientist with whom Moore was friendly in the early thirties; Moore wrote: 'Sage would talk about mathematical analysis, and graphs and shapes which could not be defined, yet he found that we sculptors were doing that kind of thing instinctively. It was a most exciting time.' The book cited has not been identified.
