This exhibition will highlight a collection of over 65 old master and contemporary drawings amassed by Professor James Anthony Betts (1897-1980) during his thirty years as Head of the Art School at the University of Reading.Betts was a practising artist, educator and collector and as a student was a colleague of Moore at the Royal College of Art and at Leon Underwood's Brook Green School. Bett's described Moore as 'without doubt one of the most distinguished of living sculptors' which led to Moore being awarded an honorary doctorate at Reading in 1959.

Exhibition Info: Configuration brings together a small, focused selection of sculpture, drawings and collages highlighting Henry Moore’s ceaseless investigation into form, material and volume. Throughout his lifetime, Moore collected objects such as bones, stones, shells and driftwood which he would turn over in his hands, build up, press into clay, cast, or photograph. This haptic practice saw Moore humanise these forms, and capture their relationship to the body both physical and imaginative.
