In a photograph reproduced as plate 70e in Moore (Vol.1) 1949, see also HMF 1388, the two reclining figures on the right of the drawing appear as clay maquettes. The maquette furthest away was cast in the 1960s as Reclining Figure: One Arm 1938 (LH 186a); the one in front has disappeared without trace. Clark regarded 1938 as a vintage year for Moore's drawings of reclining figures, suggesting that this is the earliest of a splendid series.
