Moore's use of watercolour and wax crayons is described in the introduction of Henry Moore Complete Drawings Volume 2, page ix. These large-scale drawings are based on ideas culled from several smaller sketches done in the previous two years - see, for example, HMF 1117 recto, HMF 1122 verso, HMF 1125 recto, HMF 1154, HMF 1156.
