This drawing  peopled with many familiar figures has a narrative quality very rarely found in Moore's work. The two groups in the  foreground seem to be confronting each other with a crowd in the background looking on. In its disposition of the dramatis personae, it is reminiscent of paintings by Giotto, an artist who had impressed Moore greatly during his 1925 visit to Italy.
