Moore sketches a mother holding her child against her right shoulder, from the front, from a three-quarter view, in profile and from the back. It is almost as if he is anticipating his much later practice of placing a maquette on a turntable, enabling him to work on all views simultaneously. The central sketch to the right of the main study completes the 360-degree tour of the two figures.
