Kenneth Clark considered that 'many of Moore's drawings in 1934 can reasonably be described as abstract. Even in the last of his inward-looking drawings [HMF 1073], the connection with the visible object has become very remote.' He describes this as one of a series of so-called abstract drawings which 'show a remarkable power and energy of design' (Clark 1974, p.77). In his later years, Moore disliked his works being described as abstract.
