Description: Recollections by schoolboy contemporary of Moore at Castleford Secondary School after Moore moved from Temple Street School in 1910. Moore was normal, friendly and popular, and known as Buck Moore or Harry Moore. He was hearty rather than arty, and liked football, tennis and table tennis. From age of 17 one of Alice Gostick's star pupils. Moore's name appears in school programmes of 1912 as a dancer in Castleford Through the Ages, and in 1915 as Mark Anthony in Julius Caesar. He climbed on roof of school and carved his initials. He claimed to recognise girls from the shape of their legs, and enjoyed visit to Methley Church. Carved Castleford Secondary School Roll of Honour, 1916 wood while a student teacher, and earlier had carved small Castleford Secondary School Scott Society Notice Board, 1915 wood, in honour of Robert Falcon Scott. After World War One active in students' association, and his name appears in Old Legiolians 2-1919 in tennis results, and as actor in School for Scandal. Mentions Moore's visit to Castleford as Guest of Honour at Old Legiolians annual reunion in 1937, and to receive Freedom of Borough in 1962 (See 0006493), as a War Artist in 1942, and the 1980 ceremony (See 0002304). Demolition of Roundhill Road birthplace, and poem sent by Ambler to Moore in 1974 with Moore's letter of reply.
