Sketchbook 1950
During 1950, while Moore was drawing in the Prométhée Sketchbook (see SKB 55), he was also using other sketchbooks about which little is known. The following 17 pages of cream medium-weight wove paper, many of which were cut down from their original 292 x 242mm, have been kept together here for their similarities of technique, colour and subject-matter. Other sketchbook pages begun in 1950 but redrawn later may be found grouped together as Sketchbook 1958 (SKB 65).
One drawing HMF 2630 is known to have been mounted in Heads, Figures and Ideas (George Rainbird, London, and the New York Graphic Society, Greenwich, Conn. 1958); see also Sketchbook 1950-51 (SKB 57), Unesco Notebook 1954-57 (SKB 60), Heads, Figures and Ideas Notebook 1955-56 (SKB 59) and Heads, Figures and Ideas Sketchbook 1956 (SKB 62).
