White paper-covered notebook originally containing 48 unnumbered pages plus endpapers of white wove paper 290 x 220 mm. In the Wildenstein New York catalogue of 1979, Juliet Bareau writes, 'at the present time there are two drawings of a child in the front of the book and a number a small drawings for etchings in the back'. These latter are still unaccounted for. The HMF archive notes versos for pp, 43 -47 plus the rear endpaper, which was removed by the artist in July 1979. Catalogued in order are the drawings on the front endpaper and the first nine pages. All the drawings are unsigned and undated. Moore's first grandson Gus was born on 1st February 1977 and these studies were drawn in December of that year. See also HMF 78(63) - 78(65).
