More InformationThis drawing has been retained in 1939 as originally catalogued. Both signature and date are later additions. As with HMF 1470, it seems that Moore returned to the drawing on different occasions, as evidenced by the pencil sketches on the verso which are ideas for abstract sculptures; the drawing one up on the left is connected with Bird and Egg 1934 (LH 152). The pencil inscriptions on the recto confirm Moore's preoccupation with 'abstractions'. The later pen and ink drawings, with additional hatching in black crayon, echo the style of drawing in HMF 1470 and may have been added in the mid-1950s.
