More InformationThe studies upper centre right on the recto were developed further in HMF 1277, a sketchbook page subsequently enlarged in HMF 1254, where the dark mysterious head appears between the two figures. The seated figures on the verso presage a number of future ideas, for example the 1938 drawings for projected sculptures on the Senate House of London University, and much later graphic work such as the 1974 lithographs in the Seated Figures portfolio CGM 402-412 and the etching of 1979 CGM 596.
