The figure lower left has already been included in earlier drawings, see for example HMF 1337. In this narrative drawing the four figures on the left confront the isolated mother and child on an otherwise empty stage. Moore often said that good art should demand an effort on the part of the spectator; this drawing invites him to create a story involving the dramatis personae.
