This drawing has previously been assigned to c.1928, perhaps because of the green wash - Moore had often used green chalk in Sketchbook 1928: West Wind. On stylistic grounds it is, however, closer to drawings executed in 1933. There is the same flowing line in the broad sweep of the shoulders as in the small sketch at lower right in HMF 1002a. The face of the mother, here in deep shadow, is very similar to the face in HMF 1003a, and there is a marked resemblance between the babies in both drawings.
