The pencil drawings and Moore's signature on the recto are compatible with a date of the mid-1930s, such as the pages of Sketchbook 1934-35 HMF 1128-1135. The verso signature is contemporaneous with the overdrawing in pen and ink of c.1958. On the verso are ideas for the cover of the periodical Listen. Three further designs were used as covers for the spring issues of 1958, 1959 and 1960; based on drawings of 1958 or reworkings of earlier ideas, these are known only from their reproductions, see Henry Moore Bibliography, vol.1, pp.288, 312 and 337.
