The two stringed figures inhabit an austere, cell-like space. The drawing on the left is Bird Basket 1939 (LH 205) and that on the right Stringed Figure 1938 (LH 190). When the forms are as fully realised as they are here, it is impossible to be certain whether they were drawings for or of the sculptures.
