Upright Sketchbook 1942 p.21. The large drawing of a woman’s head and shoulders on the recto is not a portrait, but what Moore later called an ‘imagined’ head. Referred to on HMF 2250 verso as SINGLE Reclining Figure half in shadow – S.21.
The circular object on the left-hand side of the page appears to be a drawing of the Library of Ashbanipal, a Neo-Assyrian clay tablet with depictions of astrological constellations, dating back to 650BC, which Moore may have seen in the British Museum.
