Moore had already set sculptural objects against an almost blank wall in HMF 1255 and 1257. The figure extreme left reappears in a 1939 drawing HMF 1459, as does the squat stringed one to its right which in 1939 would become the basis for the lead and wire Stringed Figure (LH 207). Both the central form and the one far right are developed from figures in HMF 1315 and the one on the far right reappears as the central form in the top line of HMF 1337.
