In this and the following drawing Moore used charcoal to draw in the outlines around three reclining forms, leaving blank the space delineated by the outline. He would certainly have been aware of Seurat's technique in his drawings of the early 1880s. Moore appears to have used a small tool to scrape away the charcoal at lower left, leaving a zig-zag pattern on the dark background (see also HMF 1082).
