There is a striking similarity between this and the figure of Peace painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in 1337 in The Allegory of Good Government (Palazzo Pubblico, Siena). In 1925 Moore wrote: 'In Italy the early wall paintings - the work of Giotto, Orcagna, Lorenzetti, Taddeo Gaddi, the paintings leading up to and including Masaccio's are what have interested me most.'
