Notebook No.5 p.41. This drawing anticipates the pose of the Leeds Reclining Figure 1929 (LH 59). Moore has encased the figure within the outlines of the block of stone. In later years, he would say that he regarded himself as a carver who sought to release the figure from the block of stone rather than as a modeller who built up form from the inside.
