An exhibition focusing on Henry Moore's sheep drawings from the 1970s and 1980s.
Although most prominent as a sculptor, Henry Moore was also an excellent draughtsman. He often sketched ideas for his sculptures, in pencil, charcoal and, sometime, colour washes. However, his most well known drawings - both the WW2 Shelter Drawings and his Sheep Sketchbook - are quite separate from his sculptural sketches.
Moore's sheep drawings are the focus of this exhibition. Moore enjoyed seeing sheep in the fields from his studio at the bottom of the Perry Green grounds. He made numerous sketches of the ewes and lambs outside his window - many of which he presented to his daughter Mary in a Sheep Sketchbook in 1972.
