More InformationGraham Greene had read Wilenski's The Meaning of Modern Sculpture (See 0009311) in 1932, about the time that he was planning England Made Me, published in 1935. The reference in the novel to The Diana Fountain by Carl Milles in the courtyard of the Match Palace in Stockholm is seen to derive from Wilenski's book; as is Greene's interest in Moore's work. The novelist owned a cast of one of the Moore bronzes illustrated: Maquette for Warrior with Shield, 1952-1953 bronze.
