More InformationPublished in association with the Imperial War Museum and the Tate Gallery. Detailed study drawing on the mass of unpublished material in the files held by the Art Department of the Imperial War Museum" and including quotations from the minutes of the War Artists' Advisory Committee. There are four Moore illustrations and nearly two dozen references mainly to the Shelter Sketchbooks and the Coal Mine Drawings. Details are given of payment for the Shelter drawings. The coal mining scenes are regarded as of technical rather than emotional merit. Some facts emerge about Moore: none of his devastation scenes were offered to the W.A.A.C.; his commission to draw Medical Aid Posts was superseded by the coal mining commission; he in fact served in the Home Guard as a war artist."
