More InformationStudy of Rupert Lee's life and work. 96-97 In 1929 Lee worked on an ambitious sculpture exhibition to be staged on the roof gardens of Selfridge & Co. in Oxford Street, during summer 1930. He wanted to recruit more sculptors to the 'London Group', including Moore who had started to experiment with concrete, his monumental style and drawing on Far Eastern and African stylised distortions. Epstein, Frank Dobson, Maurice Lambert, Barbara Hepworth. Moore's carvings were singled out for particular derision". Post-war resurgence of open-air sculpture spearheaded by Moore and Hepworth. 110-111 Roland Penrose and Herbert Read were planning a possible international Surrealist exhibition in 1936.
