Sotheby's London Although most of these maquettes were made for the development of larger sculptures, some were self-sufficient works, and were from a time when Moore's imagination was pouring out projects and sketchbooks reflecting his excitement at the potential of sculptural forms and experiments. Before he could afford to pay a bronze foundry Moore cast maquettes himself in lead. Later, maquettes were Moore's way of conceiving larger sculptures. The beauty of the maquettes is that they were made by Moore himself, in their original size, with the best ones giving an impression of monumental scale.
