More InformationWebpage with link to a short documentary film on Wall Relief 1955 brick (LH 375) constructed on the façade of Bouwcentrum, Rotterdam, produced by ARTtube, narrated by Wouter Vanstiphout, architectural historian. See 0023150 for video. Architecture News feature documents the history and making of the work. Two master bricklayers worked for around 1,200 hours over the course of 4 months constructing Wall Relief from approximately 16,000 hand-carved Dutch bricks. Aukje VERGEEST writes that evident in the work is the influence of non-western art that Moore admired at the British Museum. Detailed description of the work. 'According to the artist, the ancient Assyrians were already making images in bricks and taking these as an example he composed with lines and planes to create a whole.' Illus of the original building; only the Wall Relief remaining after the building was demolished; a working drawing of the façade detail; the wall in February 2015.
