Sidgwick and Jackson London David Mitchinson describes Moore's working day and the environment at Much Hadham. The photographs, taken in the first five months of 1978, are arranged into eight groupings: Portraits of the Artist, Environment, Origin of Ideas, Inside the Studio, Progression of Ideas, Tools, Execution of Work, Finished Works.
Supporting texts by Henry Moore accompany the photographs. They describe how Hoglands was acquired in 1941, and how the studios and grounds were developed. The importance of form and of the Open Air is stressed. There are comments on carving and modelling (what produces good sculpture is a good mind. You don't make good sculpture just by using a certain process although it could help") and on photography of sculpture. Some very recent works were depicted including Mirror Knife Edge 1977 bronze under construction for the National Gallery Extension in Washington and works on display in Kensington Gardens in the Summer of 1978.
