Collection of Vicotime llya Priogine (1917 - 2003), Russian born scientist who was a Nobel prize winner in Chemistry. He was a passioniate collector in Pre-Columbian art, the core of his collection coming from the state of Guerrero, a mountainous region of western Mexico. Moore is referenced in conjunction with lot 68. a Chontal Porphyry Mask. Moore is quoted: "Mexican stone sculptures have a... sublime austerity, a real stoniness", and a comparative image of Mask, 1929 (LH 62) is used.
