Five sculptures by Moore for sale: Lots 3A, 13A, 41A and 43A, each presented as a full page image with provenance and literature on facing page. Lot 3A Rocking Chair No.1 1950 (LH 274) with commentary that includes a quote from Moore 'The rocking chair sculptures were done for my daughter Mary as toys which actually rock', and a quote from 'The Art of Henry Moore' Will Grohmann that compares Moore's Helmet series to the Rocking Chair series '....tragedy is next door to comedy'. Lot 13A Working Model for Reclining Figure: Prop 1976 (LH 677). Lot 41A Large Four-Piece Reclining Figure 1972-73 (LH 629) is presented as a six page spread including an image of the work as a fold-out page and extended commentary that includes discussion on how the reclining figure was a quintessential theme with potential for seemingly limitless formal variation, noting that this work is Moore's only titled recumbent female figure that consists of four component forms. Comparison is made to Composition 1934 (LH 140) and Four-Piece Composition: Reclining Figure 1934 (LH 154). There are four complementary images: one of Moore standing between the elements of Knife Edge Two Piece 1962-63, John Hedgcoe; Monet's La Manneporte (Étretat); Moore's Two-Piece Reclining Figure No.1 1959 (LH 457) and Three Piece Reclining Figure No.1 1961-62 (LH 500), together with quotes from Moore: 'a mixture of rock form and mountains combined with the human figure'; 'All expansion of space and world starts from physical sensation' and 'sculpture is like a journey'. Lot 43A Upright Internal/External Form 1952-53 (LH 296) is accompanied by two complementary images: Upright Internal/External Form elm wood 1953-54 (LH 297); and Ideas for Upright Internal/External Form 1947-49 (HMF 2605), together with discussion on the dynamic between internal and external form with reference to; 'Dialogues on Art', E. Roditi; 'The Archetypal World of Henry Moore', Erich Neumann; the Malanggan figure from Papua New Guinea; the Wallace Collection of armor; and Wyndham Lewis. Lot 49A Family Group 1945 (LH 235) with commentary on pre-war Family Group concepts and post-war realisation in Harlow and Stevenage with image of Harlow Family Group 1954-55 (LH 364) outside St. Mary at Latton Church circa 1956 attributed to John Hedgecoe.
