British Broadcasting Corporation London 20 June 1971 Radio 3 interview with Henry MOORE by Alan HAYDOCK at Marlborough exhibition Elephant Skull (See 0004697). Announcer records gift by Julian Huxley and resulting etchings. Moore speaks in detail on his preference for etching and his enthusiasm for the skull and its complexities. He has always liked the gentle strength and power of elephants, and is saddened by the hole at the top of the skull, presumably where the elephant was shot. Describes shells as hard shield for soft form inside; bones as structural skeleton; and rocks as stone smoothed by nature, from all of which new forms can be made by the sculptor. All lead to human figure as the ultimate form of development in historical terms. The announcer then interviews briefly Stuart HOOD about the exhibition, and parallels are drawn with the anatomical drawings of Leonardo.
