(Henry Moore: Three Standing Motives). Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller Otterlo Booklet issued on the occasion of the unveiling on 10 April 1965 of Upright Motive No. 1: Glenkiln Cross, 1955-1956 bronze; Upright Motive No. 2, 1955-1956 bronze; Upright Motive No. 7, 1955-1956 bronze in the Nationale Park de Hoge Veluwe. The illustrations show not only the works in situ, but previous studies by Moore employing the vertical theme. In a short but compact statement the sculptor outlines his original concept of the vertical work, his thinking about the maquettes and their full-size equivalent, and their outdoor placing at Otterlo. John Russell places Moore's vertical pieces in historical perspective through past sculpture and architecture, totem poles, the work of Brancusi, and into Moore's own earlier work from 1927 through the Bouwcentrum Wall Relief, 1955 brick. These have now matured into the present Otterlo work, led by the Glenkiln Cross. Dr. Hammacher outlines the history of the Park and previous plans by Mrs. Kröller and Henri Van de Velde. Finally he mentions Moore's appreciation of the site, and visits to determine personally the correct setting.
