Date & Collation: (15 Aug-14 Sept).146pp.Illus.Gloss.Foreword by John PIPER.
Description: A comprehensive history of the Dovecot Studios marking the major retrospective exhibition of Dovecot tapestries at the 1980 Edinburgh Festival, in which works by 31 artists were exhibited. Four essay texts are included: The Dovecot Studios and Tapestry in Twentieth Century Europe" "An Artist's View of the Dovecot Studios" "Transposition of a Painting into Tapestry" and "A History of the Dovecot". The book also lists a complete catalogue of works woven at the studios between 1912 and 1980.
Henry Moore content: brief mentions of Moore on d/w and page 10. The reference to Moore on page 35 carries slightly more significance; in that his work is used as an example to explain the complexities of contructing a "sculptural woven form". A Moore tapestry completed in 1950 entitled Three Figures is included on the complete list of works on page 138 although no image of the piece is reproduced in the book. See Durrants Press Cuttings for images: Architect & Building News 25 Aug 1950 and The Scotsman 16 Aug 1950."

143-162 I.M. Pei.
(Includes conversation on the collaboration between Pei and Moore: a Moore sculpture in front of some Pei buildings might even be called a trademark...I wouldn't consider enlarging a Maillol or a Rodin. Because Moore's works are quite abstract they can be expanded in size and scale to match the buildings". Records that Dubuffet accepted the commission for the National Gallery "where Henry Moore's is now". Conservative opinion resulted in the more traditional Mirror Knife Edge 1977 bronze)."
