More Information

Sketchbook 1947-49 p.76. The word ‘Lithograph’ inscribed on a number of the sketchbook pages indicates subjects as possible ideas for prints. In 1949 a number of Moore’s lithographs were printed by W.S. Cowell of Ipswich, published by School Prints, London, and some collographs produced by Ganymed Press, London.

Moore spoke of seeing suits of armour at the Wallace Collection in London. The helmets led him to consider how the skull also formed a protection for the vulnerable organs it contained.
