More Information

Notebook originally containing 60 sheets of off-white graph paper 175 x 120mm stapled to a card backing board with a thin orange card cover, bearing a printed design and the word Annotazioni, inscribed in ballpoint pen upper centre La Bacca (sic, a reference to the restaurant La Barca in Forte dei Marmi) and lower centre (not in the artist's hand) SPAGHETTI AL DENTE/ESPRESS/MARINARA – OR – VONGOLE. The first sheet has been removed, and only 19 of those remaining bear drawings or text. The drawings, all of subjects in Pisa, were made during one of Moore's visits in 1957 or 1958 to nearby Querceta, where he was carving the Unesco Reclining Figure LH 416. The text pages include Moore's comments on the draft of an article by J.P. Hodin (who interviewed Moore in 1957), a visit to Paris in 1958, and an appreciation of E.C. (Peter) Gregory, who died in 1959.
