More Information
LH 429a is the head originally attached to Fragment Figure, LH 430. This work, which appears in its original form in Volume 3 of Henry Moore Complete Sculpture, cat.50b, was the maquette for Draped Reclining Woman, LH 431. This work was later damaged, and perhaps reflecting his interest in the fragmentory beauty of Helenistic sculpture, Moore then cast the broken figure in a bronze edition of 10 (LH 430), one of which can be seen in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The plaster is now in the collection of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, and the detached plaster head to this day remains in Moore's Bourne Maquette Studio, Perry Green, Hertfordshire.
