More Information

This is a key drawing of the early 1930s, directly related to Reclining Figure LH 134 carved in 1934. Although assigned by Moore to 1931, the drawing seems more at ease with those of late 1932 and the first half of 1933, as regards both style and technique. The depiction of the head, seen simultaneously full-face and in profile, is reminiscent of some of Picasso's drawings, but the struts which connect the left hip to the left thigh can be seen as forerunners of Moore's stringed sculptures of 1938-39.
